So, while writing a paper last night, I managed to spill about half a cup of water onto the surface of my new Macboo Pro while it was on.

I cleaned off the water as quickly as possible, but in my obsession to finish this last paper of the semester, I attempted to keep working on my laptop (I know, stupid).

Luckily enough, everything seemed to be working fine, and technically, still is, seeing as how I am posing this on my laptop. The only issue is, however, I can't seem to click with my trackpad. I can use it to move the cursor around just fine, but it wont click.

In the minutes after spilling the water, it wasn't working at all. However, after about 10 minutes, it was working, albiet with a little delay. After taking a break, I came back to find that it wont click at all, as it's doing now.

Anyway, I suppose I have several questions:

1) What could the issue possibly be? As I said, all the scrolling and multi-touch functionality of the trackpad work, it just wont click.
2) Could this be remedied by just letting it dry out?
3) Could this be fixed by a layman like myself if just letting it dry out won't work?
4) If I can't fix it, how much would an Apple-certified repair center charge, approximately? I don't have an actual Apple store in my city. I do have Apple Care, but I'm assuming they wont cover blunders like this.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Did you read the sticky and see if that was already addressed there ?

I did. I suppose my question is more referring to the specific problem of the trackpad not clicking. I'm curious to know what would cause that, and what can be done about it.

Please use the sticky for posting all questions related to liquid damage.

Liquid can damage any electronics in a machine, including the push-button switch of a trackpad, by shorting out control chips or other related components. You can let it sit and dry for a few days and hope for the best.

Your best bet is to call Apple for a quote on the repair.
