I got an iBook G4, 12" 1.2Ghz...that won't charge. Worked great up until my wife started using it, and I'm leaning towards 'She tripped over the cord...' However, the battery is original, and the end of the charging adapter that plugs into the power port of the laptop is kinda no longer round. I used a few small screwdrivers to try and round it out again. When I plug into the laptop, no matter what, the indicator light on the plug goes Green, and if I manipulate it around some it wil go to Orange as in charging. Once I power it up, it might show 5% charge, but doesnt show that it is currently charging, then eventually it dies. Never really tried it, but if the battery is just so old and dead that it flat out won't hold a charge anymore, would that prevent the laptop from running? So, now you know you the story:

What is more likely my problem:

1) Bad DC board (Not a big deal, $30 part, I can easily change this)

2) Bad charging plug/adapter(Not a big deal, $30 part, only takes 12 seconds to change)

3) Bad battery(Big freaking deal as I'm not excited to letting go of $120 for a battery to a computer that I salvaged back together for $50 including max RAM and max HD)

Thanks for the help, you guys are the greatest.

No, it would not. If the power supply is working and reliable, you can run the MB with a dead battery.

In fact, you can run the MB even if you remove the battery. BUT, the power supply needs to be stable and reliable.

So more than likely I have a bad charging cable/adapter or DC board? I tried powering up again after posting, the battery symbol goes between the plug and the 'I'm almost dead' symbol, and it does that until you try doing anything that starts the HD, once the HD kicks in, it peters out. It never goes beyond 1% now either. Thanks.

Fixed this tonite. Found that I had a bad charging plug, particularily the tip of the probe broke off. Bought a new one off CL, box still taped, from Apple, for only $30, lists at $79. Thanks for the help.
