I am torn between these 2 refurbed models Apple is selling right now and would like opinions.

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - Apple Store (U.S.)

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - Apple Store (U.S.)

Thanks,
Rod

The first one has an ExpressCard slot and is a true professional machine. The second one is a toy computer with no expansion but hey, it has a big battery. Oh, but surprise! There's a catch there too — the battery may be bigger, but you can't swap it yourself anymore, or use a spare. It's like an iPod that costs $2000.

I'd get the first one if I were going for a refurbished machine, but that's me.

I would pick the 2,4 ghz model. Even though its processor is marginally slower , has half the memory (and supports half too), but can easily be upgraded to 4 gb, but has a dedicated video card and is less expensive. Performance wise its practically the same, but when it comes to using video intensive work it should really have an advantage.

It really depends on personal needs and preferences, but for me, I'd take the first.

I too would go with the "first gen unibody" MBP. I like the express card slot, I like the "no tools" hard drive swapability, and I like the looks of the machine. For an undetectably slower processor, it's a no-brain tradeoff to me.

It's not "no tools" hard drive swapping — you do have to have a TORX T6 screwdriver — but it is damn easy hard drive swapping.

It's a great machine.
