So I have an old macbook 1.83ghz that's in so so condition, the screen is starting to give out and is just been used a ton. It's still working though and is doing the job for me. Now that i'm out of school I don't really use it as much as I used to and now just use my work computer to do all my hard core stuff on. So now that the iPad is out, should I sell my macbook now before it comes even more worthless and use the money to get an iPad? or should I just keep what I have and wait it out until it's time to go? If it helps I already have an iMac and my girlfriend has a macbook pro that I could always use if I needed. I realize this is something that is a case by case basis but if you were in the same situation, what would you do?

Well, if you really don't use the machine, you could sell it. Keep in mind the differences between a notebook and an iPad. Your question really boils down to what you expect a portable computer to be able to do. Selling your MacBook would mean losing an optical drive and the ability to run the applications that your work computer uses. My advice to you would be to try out an iPad in person and see what you think of using one. If you generally use your notebook for net-based applications, then maybe you could live without an actual notebook.

I don't remember the last time I even put a cd into my macbook so I don't think that I would miss that too much. As far as the applications that I use, I don't use them on a regular basis enough to miss them. Plus I would be able to use them on my girlfriends macbook pro that she just uses for the internet really. The fact that it has iwork on it makes it even more amazing so on the rare occasions I need to work on some simple documents I can make some notes about what I need to do or even do some rigorous document editing. Overall I think if I can get enough money from selling my macbook, wireless keyboard and wireless mighty mouse (which is doubtful that anyone would pay $499) I would bite the bullet and purchase the wifi ipad.
