I'd like to put a SSD into my optical drive bay on my 15" MBP from Late 2009. (Version with the expresscard slot)

I know there are some companies who sell the bracketing and connectors to do this for $60-$100, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions about which ones are the best and/or best value. Do you even really need a bracket or can everything fit snugly in there without one?

I'd also like to convert my existing superdrive to an external USB one, so any help on that would also be appreciated.

Thanks for your help.
John

A laptop hard drive is much smaller, so you won't be able to secure it using the same methods. An external enclosure should be all you need to run your superdrive.

You'll need a carrier to install the SSD in the optical bay of your MBP. Here's a post with some pics and links.

You'll need to get a USB enclosure for your SD. Although you can get a regular full-size USB DVD burner that's not that much more expensive yet will perform a whole lot better (22x vs. 8x DVD burning for example). Here's a $24 case and here's a $69 drive (or no-name for $60).
