...related to going to sleep (while on battery).
I've read up on this and the solution was the reset the PMC. Done. Five days later it's not going to sleep again. Thoughts?

Do you have any external mouses, keyboards, USB devices, bluetooth devices...etc etc connected?

Have you tried repairing permissions?

Good question. No, I don't.

No... Not sure I see the point. Resetting the PMC worked. The problem is the MacBook lost it's focus, so to speak, after a few days.

I've found that repairing system permissions often takes care of these odd issues.
But because it's your Mac, there may be other worldly forces at hand here.

I suppose its worth a shot if I can remember where the discs that came with it are at.

You can run it without the discs -I'm not talking about Disk Repair, just Repair Disk Permissions (I incorrectly stated System Permissions, sorry). You shouldn't have a problem running this on your system.

Well how about that. Even a broken watch is right twice a day, I suppose.

Well, I ran repair permissions twice and turned up permissions to be repaired twice. For fun I thought I'd verify the disk after that, but that seems to have frozen everything but the mouse. Fantastic.
Edit: Phew, Unfroze after 10 minutes. No problems found. Time for one more repair permissions run.

Whoa, that was not the intended result. Are you up and running?
Your system should not have frozen like that!
If you freeze again, I suggest booting into safe mode (hold the shift down until you see "safe boot" on the screen. This will take some time, be patient, but this will run disk repair. After you see the desktop mounted and the drive stops spinning, reboot again.
(I've been called away, but will check in half hour or so)

It's fine. I had a lot of apps open, and when it returned the verification was complete with no problems found.
Some permissions keep returning modified, but it either won't fix them (ichat pics?) or can't (I'm guessing key files changed from an update).
The MacBook still won't go to sleep properly, though.

You should quit all your running apps before repairing permissions, or repairing anything for that matter. (was ichat running?)
Also, can I presume that you're fully updated in terms of OS updates/firmware?
Lastly, have you zapped the PRAM (option-command-P-R)? Hold these keys for 4 startup chimes, then let go.
This is unusual - and I have read about this issue before, though I can't recall seeing any definitive remedy. Let me know how it goes.

No, iChat wasn't running.
The OS is up to date (for 10.5).
I recently updated my iMac to Snow Leopard; Perhaps I'll update my MacBook to match soon. With a little luck maybe that will clear up the issue.
Random thought: Is there any chance that I have it set to never go to sleep when plugged into the wall is somehow breaking the battery setting functionality?

The settings should be independent of each other. Strange indeed...
Upgrading to Snow Leopard might clear the issue up, I'd give it a shot.

I'll try to remember to revisit this thread afterwards (whenever that happens) either way.
