Hey folks,
Do you normally calibrate display of your Macbook Pro? I mean, do you at all or just unbox the thing (i.e. MBP) and get going?
I'm using my MBP for occasional photography but am wondering if one needs to calibrate a display using all these fancy gadgets like EyeOne Display 2 and Spyder3? Are they worth spending money and keeping for occasional calibrations?
Thanks.

Generally no. If you are a graphics professional then probably.

I didn't worry about it until I started using multiple monitors. Then, it bugged me if they didn't look the same.

The difference between a hardware calibrated screen and a non-calibrated screen is larger than you think. Plus, it's not really expensive: I have paid $65 for my ColorSpyder 2 Express. To me, it's definitely worth it, but photography is an important hobby to me.

If you're doing photography, a calibrated screen is a very good idea. However, if you don't want to shell-out for a hardware calibration tool, you can get pretty good results using a software tool like SuperCal. It's shareware (but, you really should toss the developer the mere $20 if you feel it's a helpful tool). It's never going to be as accurate as an EyeOne or Spyder, but, if you're diligent, you can get pretty darn good results. And it's light-years better than that leftover-from-OS8 calibrator that Apple includes in the Displays>Color control panel.
