A folder with a question mark comes up with my macbook.
Have no idea what to do.
One big problem is that is so slow in booting up and down, I can't tell where I am.
How many seconds to boot up / down. I press power button for 8 seconds, nothing happen.
Should I press for 12 seconds?
It has a CD in there, wrong CD, which I cannot eject either. It's a total mess.
Any help appreciate. thanks.
There is a copy of Windows on the machine. that may be the culprit.

hold the clicker down when you boot up, that will eject the cd.
THEN put in the dvd that came with your macbook, and start the mac up again holding the C key.
you'll boot from the dvd, and you can
a: run disk utility; repair the system if it needs it.
b: do an ARCHIVE & INSTALL (follow the prompts) if you need to re-install your system,

do some googling on all of this for more info....

Check the SMART status of the drive, it may have already died.

A blinking folder on startup means the computer can't find a valid System folder to boot from. It can mean the system is corrupted. Or that the hard drive has died. Rarely a few other things, like the HD cable coming loose. Or the system has corrupted PRAM and keeps looking for boot folders in the wrong places.

The different causes have different solutions. Follow the advice above, get into Disk Utility on your install disk. Find out if it sees the internal drive. That would be a good sign.

THANKS Guys!
Ok, I got it to boot into the native Mac OS.
I now want to run disc utility- but here is new issue:
I hold down C, after restarting, but the disc OS of CD does not come up. the computer is ignoring it and just rebooting into the native OS.

Trying holding down the option key during startup then. Choose the CD icon when it appears.

ok rj
here is update, what would you do?
Holding down option on reboot does not work, there is no option to choose a CD even though the CD is in and mounted ok.

Rebooting with C key held down continously until boot up in native Mac OS not working, not bringing up the CD OS. thanks.
