Hi all,

I'm new to this, but since today the screen of my Macbook doesn't get out of it's dimmed status anymore. Whether I'm on adapter or battery, no matter what I do or press, the screen is dimmed [like pressing F1 till there 0 notches, so when the screen seems off, but you can still see if you look hard].

Even if I adjust the brightness, I can see the notches going up, even full, it doesn't change anything to the brightness. I tried restarting multiple times, also with command-option-p-r to reset it, but no luck.

Does anyone have an idea what I can try to fix this? Any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks!
Joel

Your inverter (the thing that makes the backlight on the LCD turn on) is probably bad. The part is cheap, but there is a good bit of labor involved getting it replaced.

Take it to a shop.

The other option is that the cable has become unplugged or is damaged, both require disassembly of the MacBook, beware, all of the cables inside are tiny and somewhat fragile.

I'd go over to iFixit.com, identify my model, buy the part, and follow their instructions for replacing it. I'd be willing to bet you'll be out $50 for the part + $10 for a screwdriver set+ an afternoon fixing it. Otherwise, bring it in to Apple. You'll pay quite a bit more.
