Hello everyone,

I'm currently in Brazil and experiencing problems with my MacBook (5,1) including random kernel panics and a malfunctioning Airport. I would like to run the Apple Hardware Test (AHT) but alas I'm travelling and do not have my Install DVDs with me. From what I've read that is the only option for running the Apple Hardware test even though :

a) Apple has published dmg images of the AHT for aging models @ Apple Hardware Test Images

b) Apple also has dmgs of the AHT for some more recent models on its website, although these are (apparently) not linked to from the support pages (see http://forums.macnn.com/90/mac-os-x/...test-external/ )

c) Recent MacBook Pros and the Air can boot directly into the AHT without using the DVDs.

I tried contacting AppleCare in Brazil about this and they would send me the DVDs, except I'm not a Brazilian citizen and so cannot provide them with a CPF (its like a Social Security number). I guess thats a Brazilian law, you need it for almost everything done over the phone here.

SO dear readers, could I kindly ask those of you with a MacBook 5,1 and the Install DVD at hand if you could possibly backup the folder System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics which should be on the Install DVD (or possibly your system harddrive) to a dmg or something and send it to me (stuff21 at gmail dot com)? Much appreciated!

It might even be a good idea to start collecting such DMGs somewhere on the net as I think they would be quite popular downloads. Why not Apple?!

Cheers!

AHT should be built-in, no disc required. Boot up holding the D key.
