Hi - I recently bought a used 13" white Macbook. Specs: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Bought it cheap because it had some issues - just needed something cheap. It's battery will not hold charge, it won't shut down and keeps frantically going into sleep mode while in use. Tried everything then I took it in to my service center. They found evidence of liquid damage on the underside of the logic board and battery sleep module.

I'm a major DIY and would not pass up an opportunity to learn something new. Question: Does anyone have suggestions or advise as to what components on the logic board might have gotten fried, where I could buy replacements, and whether or not I should attempt repairing it myself? I appreciate all the knowledge out there and advise.

Sadly such a repair is a lot harder than it sounds in theory. Usually cleaning the corrosion from the board and crossing your fingers is a much as you can do.

Best bet if you want to start replacing components is to do a visual inspection. Look for anything burnt or charred. Your nose may prove as useful as your eyes. If you can't see or smell anything obvious, then you could consider just replacing anything which has corrosion on or near it but replacing surface mount resistors is trickier than it looks. If you remove too much solder from the pads on the board, it can be nearly impossible to get any back on again.
I don't know where you'd source them from to be honest. They are quite specialist items. Too small to be of any use to your average Radioshack or Maplins customer. You could try Digikey though.
