Why not call the local telephone/cable company?

Apple is not an ISP, your choice are cable, DSL, dialup, cell phone tethering, satellite...

"ISP" = "Internet Service Provider".

These are the people you deal with for your internet connection. Apple sells you the machines you use to access it, but they don't provide you with the connection itself.

Sort of like Sony or Loewe vs. your cable TV company.

There's some kind of a device you can plug into your USB port that allows you to access the internet through your cell phone service.

Usually called a dongle - what I'm using right now, in fact. You can use an iPhone as a dongle, if you're not in a country where the local provider has blocked that. As far as I know, the only provider that does block "tethering" as it's called, is AT&T in the US.
The low-end Mac Pro is the most overpriced Mac since the IIvx
