Is anyone else experiencing their i7 MBP 17" running a bit hot? Machine is usable but at the same time quite warm under/on the palm rests and around speakers (left hand side especially). Is it time to pay Apple Care a call or is it 'normal' for i7?

Open up Activity Monitor (in the Utilities Folder) and make sure it shows "All Processes" at the top right.

At the bottom you'll see the tabs. If you click on CPU you'll see if there's a runaway process that's pegging the CPU. Report back if something bizarre shows up.

Click on the System Memory tab: if you've got a lot Page Outs, do a restart. The restart in itself may cure any overheating.

PS: what kind of temps are you seeing?

Have you used an app to determine what the actual temperatures are, rather than just judging subjectively by feel?

Many thanks for your thoughts and suggestions fellas, machine was replaced yesterday as it developed another issue related to the Airport card. Will keep my eye on this one and report back if anything happens again (touch wood).
