I use alot of USB audio/midi contollers, some of which require their own USB connection and don't work as well with hubs.

So I am wondering if I get the new 17" with a USB express card, will that be it's own individual USB or will it share bandwidth like a hub?

thanks

My assumption would be that the EC slot would have a direct PCIe connection instead of just being an extension of USB. That's my assumption; that's what makes sense to me and seems most likely. But without seeing an architectural diagram of the mainboard I wouldn't be able to tell you for sure.

ExpressCard has both PCIe and USB 2.0 connections, so the card could be using either one. What you could do is to get a USB 3.0 ExpressCard, which would have to use the PCIe side since the motherboard doesn't support USB 3.0.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
