Have a 2.4Ghz Aluminum MacBook. Dropped a few weeks ago and deranged the front right bottom corner. Very noticeable gap between the case and battery. Just now, dropped on street and dented the front left bottom corner.

I'm amazed this case is so soft that it deforms to the extent it has. I'm afraid to ever take the battery out as it looks like I would not be able to latch it correctly afterwards.

Would a plastic MacBook case have shattered?

Did Unibody Macbooks ever have removable batteries?

A plastic MacBook may have cracked, or it may come away unscathed. Depends on where you it hit and from what height.

Apple don't design their laptops to be dropped, very few manufacturers do. Aluminium cans bend easily, I pretty much expect similar results out of my MacBook Pro.
