For some strange reason, no matter how much you emphasise the concept of "You really need to keep these" when you sell someone a Mac, they rarely ever do.
MacBook 2.0GHz CD; MacBook Pro 15" 2.4GHz Late '08; PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 1GHz; 3x Xserve G4 1GHz; Mac Mini 2GHz; Big pile of broken and working bits;

Also keeping the discs means the seller still has their copy of OS X. This is, of course, a blatant violation of the OS X licensing agreement, but that's life.
For all the trash I talk, I sure own a lot of Macs...

Haven't you ever looked through eBay for system software? The disks go up in separate auctions - yes, in complete violation of the software license agreement - and are sold to gullible users who think they'll be able to install the OS on their machine, to get their latest iOS device working.

This. Every time I get a second hand Mac to sell that includes the disks, they go with it. Only happens once in a blue moon though.
