I have a MacBook and I've notice this number appear near my name at the login screen and also in a finder window.

I'm pretty sure the number is going up, I'm positive it used to say 4, 5, and now it's 6.

Can anyone shed some light? Thanks! Here's an image below:

It's the age of you MB

No, all kidding aside, it's the computer name, which is set in Preferences - Sharing.
When OS X finds computers on the same network with the same name, it starts adding numbers to it.
