I have an A1286 15" MacBook Pro that recently suffered a spill.

The OS reports the battery as dead and the MacBook runs only with the power cord. With the power cord plugged in, the MacBook works perfectly.

Battery Information:
Manufacturer: SMP
Pack Lot Code: 0000
PCB Lot Core: 0000
Firmware Version: 002a
Hardware Version: 000a
Cell Revision: 0100
Charge Information:
Charge Remaining (mAh): 0
Fully Charged: No
Charging: No
Full charge capacity (mAh): 0
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 381
Condition: Replace Now
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): 0
Voltage (mV): 12169

Any ideas on what the problem is? I'm guessing it's either the logic board got spilled on & that's preventing the battery from charging, or the battery itself just needs to be replaced.

Probably hard to tell w/o any special tools.

Maybe the Apple Store genius can tell.

I'd think it's more likely the battery is dead.

Does that mean I would have to take it to an Apple Store location? The closest one is a 3 hour drive for me...

I guess you could call Apple and see if they can remotely diagnose it one way or the other. I doubt it though.

Do you have any Apple certified retailer close by ?

Hmm, not that I know of. I guess I could look around.

Thanks for your help though.

If you know where to look you could probably down load the Apple battery diagnostic. If that cycle count is correct, that battery is due to be replaced anyway. The rest of the info appears correct too. Question is will it charge and/or run from another batter since the spill?

The obvious steps are to try another battery, and try the dead battery in another MBP.
