Hey all,
My brother gave me his old 2006 1.83 macbook today (for free!) because he is buying a new one.

I am looking to upgrade it a bit to get it up to par. I've done a fair bit of research, and I think I am ready to order these parts, but I figured it would be best to make sure with people more knowledgeable than myself before I go ahead and waste my money.

I am going to replace the RAM with this:

OWC 53DR2SPAIR2G 2.0GB Matched Pair (1.0GB x 2 Kit)... $41.99 at OWC

and the HDD with this:

Hitachi Y0A57913 DIY KIT: 320GB 5400RPM HD for... $61.99 at OWC

Will that all be compatible with my A1181 2006 Macbook 13 inch?

One more quick question for you all. I don't have the leopard installation disks for the new HDD. However, I do have the snow leopard disc... I wouldn't be able to directly install snow leopard onto the empty drive, would I?

You're all good.

You can install snow leopard onto the empty drive.

Thanks so much!

One more quick question, it comes with an enclosure, but I'm just going to install the HDD right into the macbook. (internally) That's fine right?

No reason to pay OWC's marked up prices (+30%) instead of using Newegg.

Newegg.com - Crucial 2GB SO-DIMM DDR2 667 Kit
Newegg.com - Western Digital 320GB 5400RPM

I'd even suggest a bigger (500GB), faster (7200RPM) hard drive, still cheaper than OWC Newegg.com - Seagate Momentus 500GB 7200RPM
The speed is important since you're so memory constrained by the MacBook platform you'll be swapping.

Cheers dude! Thanks for the find on those cheaper drives, I'm on a major budget right now, so that helps a ton!
