I've read the threads in the sticky on this topic, but I wanted to start a new thread as none of them deal with my model of Macbook. It's the white one, I bought it about two months ago.

I'm a nanny, and I was watching a video on the mac with the three year old when she suddenly picked up a glass of water and poured it over the keyboard. I think probably about 250ml's of water was poured. The screen immediately went black. The mac was running on battery power at the time. I picked it up straight away and held it upside down, water drained out. I wiped away all the water I could see.

Then (and I know now from reading the threads on the sticky that I shouldn't have done this, but I didn't know) I tried to power it on - nothing happened. Then, I plugged the power adapter in. The light glowed green and stayed green. I tried to power it on again, but nothing happened. I unplugged it and sat it on the couch with the lid open but upside down, so it made this shapee: /\

When said child wanted to sit on the couch, maybe half an hour later, I went to move the Macbook to my bed, as obviously I wasn't going to let her anywhere near it. When I picked it up, noticed I culd feel amd hear air coming out of the vents at the back. I thought this was odd, and it was then that I noticed the 'sleep' light was on (the white light on the front right hand side). I have no idea when this light turned on, it may have even been on the whole time. I'm fairly sure it was not on when I was attempting to power on the computer, though I can't be absolutely certain. I then pressed the power button until the light went off and placed the macbook on my bed in the same position as on the couch.

What is the next step? How long should I leave it before trying to power it up again? I have a ceiling fan in my room which is on. I can probably borrow a pedestal fan and a hairdryer from my parents, would that help?

A lot of the other threads suggested taking the computer apart to dry it, but wouldn't that void my warranty?

Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Please use the sticky thread for discussion, the way to deal with liquids spilled on computers doesn't depend on the model. Closing …
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
