Hi everyone,
I know there's a thread for a similar problem to mine, but I've not been able to actually solve my problem.

My Macbook Pro won't load past the grey screen. I must have tried it at least 50 times since I've been aware of the problem, and it's only actually loaded twice.

I've managed to get it to load in safe mode, but am unsure how to actually fix the problem. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I've not installed anything new recently, or done anything different.

It was second hand from someone who claimed they'd had it just over a year, I didn't really believe it when they said it, but it was an alright price for my first one. Macs are pretty new to me, but having done a little research I'm guessing it's about 4 years old.

Thanks loads for any advice you'd be able to give!

Reinstall the OS from the disks that came with it or from a Snow Leopard retail disk.

It's possible your drive is failing.

Thanks!
Would that wipe software that is on the drive? I don't have the disks for some software on there that I'd like to keep.

Software stays. It simply reinstalls the OS.

You should have a backup drive with a current backup of your important data. Time Machine and a portable USB drive makes it really easy. Hard drives do fail from time to time.
