So my powerbook g4 finally arrived from ebay and ive got a few questions;

the woman i purchased off told me i will need to buy a new battary as this one no longer holds a charge. im fine with that and for the time being shall use it plugged in until the bat arrives.

the powerbook gets so hot , i checked the temp using thermographx and its always between 50-63c , it gets hotter if i do something demanding i guess.

also when the fan comes on it sounds wierd i dont know how to explain it as ive never had a powerbook before i do not know if this is normal. it does stop after about 5-10 minutes though. it doesnt sound like a normal fan.

my concern is that the powerbook is queit , does this mean the fans are not on? and should i replace the fan? it is not crashing or anything?

You didn't say what size of PowerBook you have, but those temperatures are pretty normal for a 12" or 15" PowerBook. If it's a 17", it's a bit on the hot side. I'm guessing the fan that you are talking about is the normal PowerBook behavior. My G4's fans come on full blast for like 5 minutes and then go back down to idling (about 2000 rpm) immediately after. I wouldn't worry. If the machine starts to overheat, it will protect itself.

so , ive charfed the battary and it only lasts for 5 minutes before it goes to 1% remaining? in the system profiler it says;

Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 50804
Charging: No
Full charge capacity (mAh): 50893
Health Information:
Cycle count: 168
Battery Installed: Yes
Amperage (mA): -3061
Voltage (mV): 11083

so i just keep it plugged in. do i need a new bat?

Yep, your battery is quite toasted. Third-party batteries are fairly inexpensive; I've got one I bought off Amazon.com in my old iBook G4 with nary a complaint about it.
Trust me. I'm a Taco.
