Boy have I had a fun couple of days...

My new iBook was supposed to be here yesterday morning via Airborne "Express". I work at home, in a residential neighborhood. Imagine my surprise when I checked my order tracking page, and read...

"Delivered // Left With Receptionist."

Receptionist??? My cat??

So I called and they asked if I knew a "Mr. XXXX". Nope. "You have a receptionist?" No. "A neighbor maybe?" No NO NOOOOO!!!

Is "XXX" your correct address? YES!

"Okay. We'll call you back."

Nobody did. I called later in the day, and a lady said, "we're working on it." I asked her, half jokingly, "you don't know WHERE IT IS DO YOU?" She paused and replied "......I guess not."

So now it's one day later, I called again this morning, and nobody can tell me where the hell it is. I'm about to pull my f#@&$ing hair out looking up and down the street for a big silver truck.

Ugh. How some dip$hit screwed this one up is beyond me.

Anything, ANYTHING but an iBook being lost wouldn't get me all bugged out!!!

What concerns me the most is the replacement of it if Airborne never finds it. I mean, is the blame on Airborne, or Outpost.com?

Ugh...I don't want to deal with this.

I found out more...now they are telling me that their driver was "new" [GREAAATTT....] and that he was now coming to my house to "retrace his steps" and figure out where he delivered it.

Figure OUT!? What a joke.

I'm beginning to think someone just got a free iBook.

And as for the post above, Apple should have overnighted one to you fresh off the assembly line. That's ridiculous that you have to wait another 3-5 weeks.

Actually, the 3-5 week replacement wait is correct. It wasn't Apple's fault it was lost, and they don't even have to replace it at all. They could ask you to pay for another one (which is what their policy states), so consider yourself lucky. {BTW, I don't agree with it, but that's just the way it is}

As for the outpost guy, I will NEVER order from them again because of Airborne Express. They are the absolute WORST carrier in the world, and should never be trusted. I cannot believe they are still in business.

I always thought AE was more reliable. At least when they said they would be at my house between 10 and 12 they would be there at 10.

I would hate to be that delivery guy.

Speaking of Airborne Express, when I got my Cube and flat panel delivered, the flat panel's box had a huge hole gouged out of it! It looked as if some jerk had thrown a TV on top of it, or something! You can imagine my horror before I opened the box... had the screen been destroyed? Surprisingly, nothing was wrong with it, but still, it makes you wonder...

I have never had any problems with either Airborne Express or FedEx. Just lucky perhaps. Sorry to hear about misdirected deliveries. I probably would have to go through several therapy sessions if they had lost my new iceBook, fortunately FedEx came through. Hope your story has a happy ending. Keep us posted.

Okay, let me say that my pearly white iBook finally found it's way home.

But what a journey...

Turns out the delivery guy delivered it to a house many blocks away from mine -- "why" is totally up in the air, for the numbers weren't even close.

So here is the fun part. The house was UNDER CONSTRUCTION, and a construction worker signed for it!!!! My jaw dropped when I heard this. So I walked down to the house and asked around, before finally finding it. Fortunately it hadn't been opened so those greasy guys couldn't get their fingers on it!!

Anyway, the guys were asking me (imagine with a southern accent)..."you say there's a LAPTOP in that box?"

"Yes" I reply.

"Boy, that shurrrr is a SMALLLL box."

I'm glad somebody has found a happy ending.

Apples position on a new iBook is that I have to wait for FedEX to admit that they "lost" the package and cough up the money for a replacement.

I asked if I could get a new one "in the pipe" just in case (HA!) this one never shows up. They did indeed say thay would have to charge me again, which doesn't exactly make sense, since they don't charge until they ship anyway.

I'm wondering (idly) how well this would hold up legally, since technically they are in default on the sales contract. (From my point of view anyway, since I never recieved a computer). It seems to me as if the problem should be between Apple and FedEx, and Apple in the mean time should have to honor the original deal. I'll try that logic this afternoon in my daily nuisance call.

Not holding out much hope....

Glad to hear you found your ibook!

satebo, do you really want to go up against Apple's legal team? These guys are like rabid monkeys, looking for rotten banannas

Anyhow, you will have no legal claim there (I'm no lawyer), cause they fulfilled their agreement, and it was a totally different company (FedEx) that didn't fulfill their end of the agreement. I just hope you get your iBook after this big mess.

OK, now I'm just being argumentative, but it seems to me that I paid Apple to DELIVER an iBook, not SHIP an iBook. Until I take delivery, they haven't done their job. I realize it's more complicated than that because there is a (expletive) third party involved in the middle here, but why is that automatically MY problem and not THEIR problem.

I really don't know, but I'm in favor of any view that might get a new book on the way to me ASAP. Of course, selling that to Apple is another thing entirely.

Anyone with a professional legal opinion want to chime in?
