Where to check serial port speed?

I run OS 8.1 on Perf 630. I consider a 56k modem but I'm not shure if this will increase my internet performance, because I read that you need a data throuput of 115kbit/s or 230 kbit/s for good results.

Any-1 got an idea?

O.K., Problem solved. I downloaded FreePPP 2.6. Now I can set my modemport speed up to 230,4 kbit/s.
