There are converters for IDE drives to behandled as an SCSI drive. You would need one such adapter for every IDE drive you are going to use (not cheap).

Also, IDE cards for attaching IDE drives (two of them, I think as usual with IDE, maybe even four) internally exist, but afaik just for PCI Macs. Your Mac is a NuBus one, sorry. I never heard of an IDE card in the NuBus form factor.

Have a look at http://www.acard.com.tw/product_new.htm

My suggestion: Try to get a used or refurbished SCSI CD-ROM drive at places like http://www.smalldog.com/, http://eshop.macsales.com/ etc. There should be 8x and 12x CD-ROM drives available for acceptable prices.

Good luck,

Walter.

See if you can find an apple branded drive. I'd rather have a slow apple made cdrom drive in a computer than a faster non-apple one, because if you go non-apple, you will end up having driver problems, and have a hard time reinstalling system software off a cdrom.

It's not the end of the world, but you might have problems booting up from CDs if you go non-apple.

A store here in San Diego (their main office is in Oceanside, about 45 miles north of San Diego) sells old OEM Apple (Matsushita, I think) 4x SCSI internal CD drives for $19. I got one last year to replace a bad drive in my kid's 7600 and it works fine (and no extra drivers required at all since it really is an OEM drive). They have an internet site at www.allelec.com .
