Folks, we're having some problems with dozens of PowerMac 5260's and system 7.5.5. Basically, these things lose their network connectivity after a few hours on the school's DHCP network and it's a headache. Of course, system 8.1 handles the network just fine, and I think the difference comes down to the Open Transport extensions. The school system doesn't have the licensing for dozens of 8.1 machines, so no quick fix there.
Has anyone encountered problems like this and what can be done about it?

Well, you're certainly right about the funkiness being resolved in 8.1 - our school had several 7200's that had some serious networking problems with system 7.5.3 and 7.5.5, which ultimately were resolved with system 8.0. There is no way I know of fixing the system 7.5.5 software so that it works properly.

What kind of specific changes have the networking architectures undergone between 7.5.5 and something like 8.6 or 9.0?
