Just wondering what I need to get a Performa 575 connected to a Linksys 4 port router for web access. If I'm able to use the connection for file sharing with my G3, all the better.

As far as I know, it is in its as new condition; no new cards or ports have been added. I do know that there was an external modem connected at one time. Can this port be used?

You need to get an LC ethernet card (by Farallon or Asante) from one of the major vendors or you can get a used card. It is supposed to come with drivers. You need one that has an RJ-45 connector (10baseT) and you can connect that to a hub using a patch cable. To connect directly to the mother machine, you can use a cross-over cable, but they are not as reliable as using even a cheapo 10baseT hub.

Some of the older RJ-45 cards might be 2baseT, but I think that will work with a 10baseT hub.

Adding an ethernet card will allow you internet access (via the Linksys) and will also allow you to fileshare between your machines... A great resource for learning about networking your macs is http://www.threemacs.com .
