I just bought a Newer MaxPowr G3-L2 300/1MB for my PowerMac 6500/250. The problem is, it's always hanging either during startup or 5-10 minutes after the Finder has loaded. I've reinstalled System 7.5.5, 7.6.1, 8.1, 8.6 and 9.0 on a separate partition with no success. I don't have any other peripherals attached. Disabling the Newer extension makes the Mac usable again, although it just runs on the stock 603ev. Anyone have the same problems? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a PowerMac 7500/100 upgraded to G3 with a Newer card. Did you remove your L2 cashe card when you installed your Newer card? I had written to the forum previously about a problem I was having with freezing and a response I got asked me this question. I checked and had removed it (though the instruction book doesn't tell to do so - I must have called Newer when I put it in and they told me - I wouldn't have done that on my own!). Possibly this is causing your problems. You might call Newer and asked if you haven't already remove it.
By the way, my freezing problems were caused by a temperature drop over night when I turned down the heat. (I assume it is the older Seagate hard drives I have installed.)

I have learned from 3dfxgamers.com's forum that the latest Newer's drivers has problems with 64/6500 and like clones. Try and see if you can get the version just before this latest one as it seems to be the more stable one. If you can't get one from Newer, post a request at 3dfxgamers' forum.

In the 6400/6500 series computers, the L2 G3 upgrade card *replaces* the L2 cache, so there is no way that the cache can still be installed.
