I got out my old Mac Plus that has been sitting in storage for many years. I am attempting to get my old 20MB Hyperdrive FX working with it (I shouldn't have formatted it with my 7200).

Anyways I was looking on eBay at all the Mac Plus stuff and I noticed that none of them look like mine. The back of my Mac says Macintosh Plus 1MB but does not say Mac Plus on the front of it like all the others on eBay. It appears to have the same case that the Mac 512Ks on eBay have. Do I have a really early version of the Plus or something that mine is different?

I know this is going way back to the year 1986 nut maybe someone out there will remember.

The original Plus came in Apple beige; during 1987 the case color was changed to platinum, the same color as pre-Bondi Macs. There are persistent rumors that the power supply in the beige Plus was less reliable and more prone to failure with 4 MB configurations, a problem resolved with an improved power supply in the "platinum" Plus.

Maybe this explains it.

I think it does, I had replaced the power supply and it is a different color than the case.

as to your hard drive:

Remember, for a Mac Plus the drive has to be formatted using "interleaving" in a 3:1 ratio. Otherwise the Plus will not be able to use it.

The original Mac SE still used 2:1 interleaving, only on later machines the interleaving was 1:1 and thus the interleaving topic itself faded away.

Of course you need formatting software that offer you the option to select an interleave ratio other than 1:1. Presumably, Apple's HD SC Setup (included on system floppies of 68k Macs) will do.
