It's time to upgrade. My old 68030, with 32 mb of ram,
no longer looks cool.

I'm giving the old computer away, and want to save
some files.

The LC520 doesn't have a modem. It has an external scsi zip
drive, and a floppy disk drive.

The iMac doesn't have a floppy disk drive.

The solution I have come up with is : save files to floppy,
visit Mother, email myself the files while she cooks dinner.

Is there a better way? One that is so good that I don't mind
giving up a meal with Mother

How much do you need to back-up, size wise? And how much are you willing to spend?
There are ways to do it but its going to cost you... the Zip sounds like the eaiset way, but there you are stuck buying a FW to SCSI adapter or a new zip USB drive.

Size is not huge, once compressed, which is why I am
thinking email.

It would be nice if I could plug the zip drive into the iMac.

There are SCSI->USB converters. They will allow you to use the ZIP drive with your new iMac, but they will be much slower than you are used to (the rate of SCSI vs. the USB throughput).

It will get it used and could be useful for other external SCSI devices, too. Since you have the LC520, I'm guessing you don't have a lot of other SCSI devices though. In any case you can always use it in the future.
