place to find an OS for it? I got this one for free, and it boots, but has no system software.... what kinds of floppies work in it, and where can I download software?? Also, does anyone have a stack of floppies with SW for it? I know someone must!
-PBG3
P.S. I have an external 1.2 GB HDD (scsi), will that work on it?

Yes, the HD will work with it. You can run system 7.0 on the Plus, and it is avilable for free off of Apple's servers (you'll have to root around to find it, but it's there). 400 and 800k floppies work in the Plus.

The external drive will only work if you can reformat it so that the Mac Plus can read it. You'll have to have a compatible driver software (such as Charismac Annubis, an older version) that will let you set the interleave to something like 3:1.
I haven't tried it with a Mac Plus, but that used to be a big issue with old powerbooks and newer drives.

Tim,
you are right, the Plus will need a 3 to 1 interleave factor in order to utilize the HD. The software I have used back then with my Plus is SilverLining by LaCie (there is also a freeware version).
PBG3,
see "Silverlining Lite/d2 full versions" at the bottom of http://www.lacie.com/scripts/support/updaters_sl.cfm
It reads:
"If you are using an older Mac system, including the Mac Plus, we recommend you use the previous releases of Silverlining. These downloads include full releases notes and some changes and bug fixes."
Walter.

will a mac plus recognize all 1.2 gigs? I don't know if it's advanced enough . . . but you can get all the old apple systems up to sys 7.6 for free on apple's support site.

krockls1,
I think so. I think that any limitations regarding hard disk size have been a matter of the OS version (before OS 8, there was a limit of 2 GB per partition, or, maybe, just for the startup partition).
Regards,
Walter.
