I recieved two 16 mb DIMM's to add to my recently acquired (eBay) Power Mac 7600 that came with only 16 megs of RAM , but ran fine with OS 8.5.1 till today. I added the two new chips , and on Restart , the Mac had a stroke. No "chimes of death " , just a single short burst of "Static noise" and a black screen. The power supply still works, the hard drive and floppy run, ADB / keyboard power-on/off work. But it won't boot . It won't do anyhting at all.
I immediately took out the "new" chips and reinserted the old chip that worked fine. Same symptom..blast of white noise from speaker, and no system start...but all components are powered up OK. This is what I did further:
1. Reset the "Cuda" chip
2. Removed and reseated the Processor Card ( factory 132 mhz 604e chip )
3. Reset the Logic Board ( unplug power plug, remove PRAM battery, wait ten inutes, then try again...no luck! )
4. Tried all combinations of the three 16 mb DIMM's , in different slots, etc.
Still no luck !
I live in Wyoming. There are no Mac repairmen or techies for literally hundreds of miles, and I have some big projects pending and really need this computer up and running. Soon.
What else can I try ? I'm in dire need of help , and at wit's end.
