I've decided to upgrade my trusty 9600/350 and am thinking:
1.XLR8 for the CPU upgrade -- which sounds easy enough to do
but
2. hard drive -- what recommendations would you have. Most of what I'll use it for is word processing and photo and web design.
Really appreciate your suggestions -- and where to buy as well.

The XLR8 CPUs work great. Good descision.
As for the hard drive, make sure not to get anything that has a rated RPM of less than 7200. The drive you durrently have installed is probalby 5400 RPm. a 7200 RPM drive will speed up everything you do 35%. It may cost a little more for a higher RPM drive, but it is more than worth it.

Thanks for your note.
What kind of 7200 rpm drive do you suggest. And is it a SCSI drive I need as well?
Thanks again

I personally like Maxtor drives, but all manufacturers make practically the same hardware. And yes, according to www.everymac.com , you need a SCSI drvie.

You can use a cheaper IDE drive if you purchase a PCI adaptor.

I got a G3/500 and an IDE adapter plus a 30Gb drive. The XLR8 upgrade was superb, quality product, great manual took me 5 minutes to upgrade. The 30Gb Maxtor and card though was a bit more tricky and cost me afull 2 hours to get back to status quo, runs like a peach now though. I'm saving up for the new Velocity 500 G4 MP form XLR8 now, its a must!!
