i seem to recall my old highschool having a lab of Mac Plus....
and don't recall any external Hard drives.....
and yet, we would go in, pop in our disk, launch claris works and start typing.....
how is that possible? if it is. can you load the OS into the ROM or something?

Back then, ClarisWorks would have fit on the floppy along with your file!
Maybe you didn't register the large beige box under the Mac Plus being a hard drive or they had it stored under the table.
Also, you could have been hooked up to a localtalk network and sharing the application from there, although that would be pretty slow, but everything was back then (except for booting )

The external hard drives were huge! If you think about a hard drive, and then the size of that plastic box that it's in....wow. It likely looked like something else.

gumby5647,
maybe there was an additional external floppy drive? I remember that with my Plus, I started with a dual floppy configuration before I got my first hard drive (20 MB Quantum, external, of course).
We used to have one System floppy and one application/data floppy.
Walter.

Mac Plus has a 800K floppy drive, and it is enough to do many things.
You can run Sysem 6 and ClarisWorks 2.0 (free to download now) within one floppy disk.
You can also browsing the web and check e-mail with this great machine !!!
Go to jagshouse.com for more interesting information for the old Macs.
