Corrupted Fonts. Case in point. My Adobe Fonts were bad and I trashed and reinstalled Adobe and now 8.6 is fast and it also fixed other problems.

When one upgrades to OS 8.6 , it is almost mandatory that you also install the small extension called " Font Fixer 8.6 " , free from DiamondSoft, which resolved the system confusion between older Adobe fonts with the FONT resource type and newer fonts. This was a serious issue with some applications , passwords, and invisible files.

Fonts are the functional alcoholics of the Mac OS... I wish they could somehow be made to operate outside the core system.
