I have a 8500/180 I want to put more RAM in it. In the past I shelled out $100 + for memory for this machine. I was checking prices and found place that offers 128mb , 168-pin FPM DIMMS 60 ns. However my tech manual that shiped with my 8500 says to use 70ns memory. Coast -to-Coast offers the 60ns for the 8500 will this work ok???

Yep, it'll work. A possible reason it says 70ns is that it was probably the standard at the time. I have heard conflicting things about mixing 60 and 70NS RAM, I have done it and I have had no probelms at all.

BTW, see Velocity Upgrades for 128MB FPM DIMM for your 8500 for $26.

You can also ask, them, but I am sure you will have no problem. RAM is so cheap, I am loading up.

Load up, more RAM is better.
EDO is faster than FPM, interleaving adds to that boost.
Gauge pro says 65-66 MB/sec on the 8500, 25-26 MB/sec on the 7500 and 232 MB/sec on my G4 duallie at home.

I have all 60ns in my old 8500 - 240 MB EDO, interleaved.
It's kinda tweaked. Bus is at 56.8, G3-400 @ 454 , OS 9.1
FireWire, USB and Ultimate Rez 3D card(new drivers with OS 9.1?) PCI cards.
I use it at work to avoid Winblows.

Also have a 7500 with a 604e-233 (46.7 MHz bus) with 80 MB mixed EDO/FPM and 60/70ns.
It talks to my DSL modem and does SETI (37-44 hrs per wu)

Think of it this way. 70ns is the minimum speed required. If it's faster, it will work. If it's slower, it won't. In terms of access speed, the lower number is faster, so 60 works fine.
