A friend of mine just gave me a Mac Classic II and I'd like to do the following to it:

1) Gut it and make a Macquarium.

2) Build a case similar to the Ze Cube (http://www.cam.org/~benb/computing/index.html)

Doing #1 is relatively easy, but #2 is a bit trickier. What size of an enclosure is required to house all of the Classic II components? Any ideas?

You'd need it to be about the same size as the original case. I've opened old classic macs up quite a few times and they're all pretty cramped inside.

Are you planning on putting the monitor in the new encolsure as well? If so, the smallest thing you'll be able to pull off is something very near the size it is now. Just measure it for the dimensions.

If you're talking about putting the logic board inside something different, without using the monitor... That can be a big pain. The Analog board that supplies power to the system also contains the video circuitry. There are ways to do it, though. I suggest checking with your library for "Build Your Own Macintosh And Save A Bundle". The author puts the motherboard from an SE into a PC case and discusses options for the video.

All in all, it's more trouble than it's worth.

...and when you're all done, you have a computer that runs at the speed of a 16 MHz 68030 chip. I'd go for the aquarium.
