I bought a used 50-pin SCSI 4GB hard drive for use in my clone. (Powercomp. 132 with Sonnet 375 G3) The drive was Windows formatted. I successfully reformatted it with Drive Setup and installed OS 9.04.

Problem: About every other time I get the flashing question mark at startup. Apple System Profiler recognizes it as being 0 on the SCSI chain, so I don't think it's an ID problem.

What I've Tried:

• Made sure it's the startup disk
  Made sure it had the latest driver
  Rebuilt the desktop
  Zapped PRAM
  Reseated SCSI connectors, etc.

I stuck my old drive back on and the machine boots up first time every time. Any suggestions?

Maybe try a different ID setting.

Sorry...I forgot to mention that I tried it at 1 and 2, same effect.

I don't know if this would make a difference or not but...

if the drive is the last physical device on your SCSI chain did you make sure that it was properly terminated. Termination is one of those SCSI voodoo issues that can make things act funny. Hope this helps.
