If you are losing your @mac.com email addy, make sure you change the email addy on your DC project registrations, otherwise you won't be able to access them in the future.

This has been a public service announcement.

I've already put a copy of the sig folder in my earthlink webspace, as well as a copy on www4.macnn.com so the sigs are safe. Just have to update our sigs page to the www4 urls, then post a sticky thread about it.

The filenames are unchanged, you just need to adjust the filepath a little. The new filepath is:

www4.macnn.com/team/sigs/TeamSig.gif

Adjust the filename as needed, or just copy and paste the filepath.

I'll leave our existing sig files on mac.com until Apple erases it, or gives in and offers a low-cost iTools option. But they will most likely go off the air at midnight September 30.

One week to go. I updated my stuff today.

The following projects use email-based user registration:
SETI@home
distributed.net (RC5)
Ubero
dFold
----------------

Folding@home does not seem to have user registration. Certainly there were no edit pages that I could turn up.

My other accounts to update were mostly Forum registrations. I was registered on a number of rival team forums, and needed to update each of those email addressess. That, or possibly lose some taunting ability in the future.

Why you should update your email
While you can still use your clients, or even make profile changes if you have a copy of your password, there are a couple reasons why you would want to update your email while you still have it:
  1. You don't have a copy of your password. The pass will be emailed on request to the mac.com mailbox.
  2. Someone else claims your old mac.com address after you give it up. They order your password emailed to their new mailbox, and they then steal your units to another team. They would likely change the password too, in order to lock you out of their team choice for their new units.
