Well, we discussed doing a SETI race 8 months or so, but ruled it out do to SETI server problems. Well, the SETI servers are good now and both SETI and dFold need some attention.....

.....So how about a race? SETI or dFold? Take your pick, and for how long....

I'll take you on in SETI-- how about 30 days? Scott, set up a start/stop time.

10-1 to 11-1?

10-10 to 11-10?
That gives more people time to join and maybe reader50 can whip up some stats.

Anyone else want to join in?

Whatever gives us a fighting chance™. I've got 4 CPU's and could MAYBE push that to 6 or 7, tops. Maybe it should just be a free-for-all between whoever signs on by the 9th? Or will you crush us under your thumb unless we team up?

I'll join. I need something for my G4 to do since RC5-64 finished.

I'll also throw my PC on SETI, but it's gone back to 1.466GHz, for some unknown reason it's no longer stable at 1.57. It doesn't give me the BSOD, just freezes like OS 9 did. I haven't seen WinXP do this on any other machine.

I'll race you all in dfold..
oh wait, I win

I could set up for Seti but I really don't like seti, also it isn't as tweakable as the other DC projects, unless thing have changed.

Everyone who is in the SETI race against me, post your seti usernames.

This race will be you all vs. me.

Is it ok if I change the starting date to Monday, oct 7th, at 12:01AM, EST, and set the ending date at midnight Nov 8th (right as nov 9th starts) EST?

Also, if you want, post your estimated daily production.
I choose to withold that info

Anything else that we need to get ironed out?

here's the baseline that I've got.

Code:
Scott 9681 chris v 179 gumby5647 1884 gumby 6100 28 skibikeski 712 steevak 23 reader50 1047
I also saved the page listing all members, but I think that if anyone else wants to join, it's only fair for them to start crunching from when they join.

Now I'll try and see if I can work a spreadsheet well enough to track stats.

Even if it will screw up my average CPU time.

I know what you mean. I won't run anything slower then a 1.2GHz Athlon Thunderbird with DDR ram in order to keep my times low. Don't worry though, if you guys get close, I'll switch all the "slow" machines over too

Can do.

Yes, I've got a nice little spreadsheet that I'm hoping works. I'll post stats daily (when I remember, luckily the code really isn't time based, it just screws up the "yesterday" part), and if I have time, I'll make a graph and post it too.
Reader50 might have time to whip something up this weekend though, which will work even better.

Gotta make another stab at getting bookkeeping to let me run SETI on their Hells. (350 PIII & 1.5 PIV) My daughter has a Gateway, too. Oooh, lookout!

I managed to whip up 8 units yesterday, but there was a few hour period when my PC was running RedHat without SETI. I've made sure that won't happen again (cron). So I now should be able to do 10 units a day. Maybe more if I beg my friends again, but I think I pestered them too much last time.

If I can do 10/day on my own, then I'm happy.

Regarding stats on the site, I'm keeping notes regarding starting figures and day for each participant. Maybe I can hack something up within the next week - 10 days.

The stats page shows Scott churning out 42 WU's yesterday!

Must have more power! I wonder if its too late to overclock the Hypersparcs. Oh wait, they're already hotter than the surface of the Sun...

I think somehow the stats on the team site aren't the same stats being used in the competition. Two days ago scott had a lot more that 3. And I find it hard to believe that I turned in 40% of the units for yesterday.

I guess I ought to ask the question, where are the stats for the race coming from?

I pull em from the total produced page at midnight eastern time. the seti proxy dumps at 2am eastern time. So stats looked funny for the first day. That will be fixed from now on, and on the last day I'll dump the seti proxy in time for the work to get on the stats.

Hmm, I think I'm going to need a little more oomph in order to keep ahead. I guess it's about time to sacrifice my nice time per WU in favor of more production. Oh well
At least I can move a few more WU/day as soon as I get the slow systems moved from DF to SETI.
