Following our earlier chat in the F@H time thread, just a quick update on the overclocking - my mate had a couple of 2700 ddr ram sticks as per your suggestion.

166 fsb x 11.5 multiplier gave a reported 1921mhz! (actual fsb was just over 166 according to wcpuid) - these 1700's I ve got are very stable at that speed Been playing UT2K3 all night and hadn't even noticed SETI was running too! The ram was happy at that speed and even allowed a lower rating of cl2 even tho' they were cl2.5.

Epox 8RDA+ board, 1700xp @ 1921, GF3 TI200 (o'clocked to 220/460), 2700ddr ram, Matrox 133 serial ATA 7200 8mb cache HD.

Best of all the temp was never higher than 37C with a Volcano 7 cooler.

Having fun so far!

There's always PM and email too

Sounds good.
Let me know how high you get them to go, and if you think you hit a ram limit or a CPU limit.

I'm tempted to try and get myself one, for my OC box (currently xp 1800 1533@1725).
I just wish I had money.
I could afford 2 or 3 if not for the fact that I said I'd buy battery backups.

LOL true! The wonders of the internet, forgot all about them

I'll get the serial/stepping code for you later so you can keep an eye out for the 'good ones'.

We did try 167x11.5 and it posted, booted XP but failed when things got heavy (benchmarking using MadOnions 2001SE). Likewise for 166x12. will probably leave it at 166x11.5 to let it burn in a bit.

I can get what is probably a B for $50, but the stupid school bookstore closed at 12PM today, so I don't know if I have $50 for it
It'd be a worthy upgrade from my 1800, I think.
If not, at least it'd be cooler and use less electricity.

Those Volcano's are excellent - that's what I'm using at the mo', the temps are v Good (35 to 37) they are not the quietest but they are good for overclocking.

Nice choice of gear, good price!

sorry that I've disappeared off the face of the earth Scott...had so many things come up...this is my first visit back to macnn in a long time.

anyways...got a t-bred B 1700xp from newegg that replaced my 1600xp pal. Don't remember the exact markings on the core, but I have it running @ 2040mhz I believe, @ ~40C full load (volcano 7). Can run it 2100 pretty easy as well, however temps go up quite a bit, which means gotta turn the fan on the volcano 7 to max, which is louder than *&@#$$#(!!!!

Oh yeah, runnin on the new asus a7n8x (nforce2 chipset). the best pc mobo i've had yet hands down.

sorry for disappearin...and i keep my word bout doing things...so if u ain't got them yet...i'll get that stuff sent to ya.

WOW!

These things are sweet.

Got my 2100 today.
I'm at 2080MHz, 160MHz FSB, vcore of 1.7. I'd bump the vcore to 1.8 or 1.85 and run the proc up higher, but this mobo can't do it. I might grab another mobo (and proc ) just to see how high these things can go. I wonder if I can't get a 500MHz overclock out of one of these suckers.

NIce chip! Of the two XP1700 I got one is stable at a tad over 1700MHz (11x155fsb) - this is a Shuttle SN41G2 which cannot do multplier changes or v core mods, only fsb. The other is on an epox board stable at 1920(ish)MHz (11.5x167fsb) vcore at 1.7 - this has been over 2000 but failed a couple of times so went for stability instead so yep, a 500MHz overclock can be done! Best of all the temps have only risen by a couple of degrees (hmm OSX on AMD, could be fun....).
