You just have to run two copies in two complete folders.

I was under the impression it's possible, but would require 2 completely clean downloads, as in not a simple copy of the folder/files.

No, a simple copy works fine. One of the math projects had something where once you ran it if you then copied the folder contents to other machines they all did the same work. But DF uses a "seed of the random number generator which is based on the time you start the program and the process ID (basically the two most random things on your machine)." Quoted from a FAQ on the DF site. It generates a new seed when program starts that doesn't have anything to do with what is in the folder.

You can copy the folder on Distributed Folding, and all will be fine. But I suspect Toast is talking about Folding@home (a different project). Folding@home requires a unique machine ID ... but you do not need to download. Copy the folder, then delete the client.cfg file. Also delete the Work folder. Note, you must be using the - local tag to run Folding this way.
On startup, the 2nd install of Folding will ask for your user handle, the desired team number, etc. And the project server will assign a unique machine ID for the 2nd box. Folding requires a unique ID because work is downloaded from the server, and the server must track what work was issued to whom. Distributed Folding does not need to track this, the work starts as a random seed number.

Thanks for the info. I currently have two copies of DF running at the same time. I wonder what happens if I try using three...
