Wasn't someone working on an application that sets up whatever Distributed Client you want all automatically? That was going to be a nice recruiting device, but it seems to have fallen out of existence.

Does anyone have the source? I'd be more than heppy to pick up the project. I could probably have it done fairly quickly, too.

Yeah. that seemed to be a crucial part of the pervious recruiting efforts but it appeared to have disappeard.

That would be me. The app was "MDC3", and it was essentiually done, but for one reason or another I just kind of abandoned it. I would have no problem providing the source to anyone who wants it, and I'd even consider picking it back up if I could get some enthusiastic testers.

The landscape of distributed computing has changed a little since it was written. It supported RC5-64, SETI@Home, and Ubero. We'd probably want to dump Ubero in favor of one of the folding projects, and swapping RC5-64 for RC5-72 should take all of about 5 minutes.

The source is RealBasic 4.5. Anyone interested in helping to develop and/or test it?

I'd test it. I'd also like to take a look at the source.

The source would be meaningless to me, but I would gladly help test it, just like I did the last time.

I have too little free time to help develop the app, but it would sure be nice to have.

If a tricky code problem is encountered that no one else can get past, I'd be happy to take a crack at just that problem. Let other people try first though.

^^^

I'd love to see this done, it would be a great recruiting tool, especially the ease of run at boot setup, for retention.

You know, what with all the dual processor machines now days, somthing that could simplify dual setup for several projects would be real nice. Been some demand for that for folding@home because a lot of folks aren't comfortable with the terminal or how to run the CLI as -local.

I'm sure there's a bunch of little apps we'd like to see written, or that may already be written but not public.
Shaktai, maybe you'd like to make a new thread for ideas for apps, where we can all kick around ideas, as well as post any that we find that other teams wrote that do what is wanted?
People who can program could take up the challenge of writing some of these apps. I've wanted to see a fair amount of teamware, but I'm not able to program any of it.

My wife and I had a baby a few weeks ago, so I'm out of the loop. I'll try to remember to upload it and post a note here sometime soon.

Congrats to both of you on the baby.

Scott, the thread idea is a good one. Not tonight though, I am exhausted and my mind is fried from work. Trying to type coherently is almost too much.

If you guys come up with a list of apps, I'd be happy to help write some of them as open-source.

Hmm! An app that will startup and configure in local mode, two instances of the Folding@home CLI four dual processor machines.
