If you have a PC, any PC, enabling gromacs will provide a production boost.

For all CLI versions
add '-advmethods' to the end

example
Code:
./FAH3Console-Linux.exe -advmethods
For the windows GUI: (Special thanks to enola)

Go to the shortcut that you use to start it.
In the target, add '-advmethods' to the end

Any questions, just ask.
This is one way that we can improve production of the team without adding any more processing power.
Note that you will not always get gromacs WU, so don't expect that.

Thanks! Just one question, in the windows GUI version, does F@H need to be restarted for the change to take effect?

Yes it would. Just stop it, when you restart it will continue on its current work, then the next time it asks for a work unit it might get a gromacs core.

So I have noticed a funny pattern on the cores that I am getting. On my two dual boxen the client in the folding folder always gets a gromac core while the client in the folding0 folder always gets a tinker. My P4 single has a gromacs, it pretty much gets ignored so I don't really know more than that. My node server seems to always get a gromacs core while the nodes always get tinkers.

Any guesses as to what would cause this pattern?

Update:

The client running out of folding0 on one of the dualies just grabbed a gromacs. So now I am am just wondering about the nodes.

You will still get tinker WU, especially as more and more people run gromacs. There are still more tinker WU then gromacs (which is still in late beta testing).
I would recommend that anything earlier then a p3 or athlon not run gromacs as they don't get much improvement, but they do take away WU from the much faster newer processors.

BTW, we are definitely getting a large boost, if we keep this up we will be able to repass LWD, and pass macrumors. We need another 800-1000 points per day in addition to matching any powerups they have.

My production is about to drop as I just finished with the contract I was at. No telling when I'll get another. May be a tiny bit before I start contributing again.

What is the most likely reason that the nodes weren't getting gromacs? No -advmethods switch maybe? Doh!

Maybe enola can help me. I have switched back to the GUI version and it starts automatically when the machine boots up. How do I add this tag to SETIatHome when it starts at boot-up and is not in the start menu "start up" folder. I'm using WinXP Pro on an Athlon 1gig.

Thanks!

ravenfan, the -advmethods applies to folding@home not SETI@home as you wrote in your post. If you meant folding@home and you can't find the shortcut in the "Startup" I don't know where else to look for it. I have never used XP. The shortcut on my win2k box is called "Folding@home 3.24" so perhaps so a search for that name or substring of it and hopefully you can find it.

Ravenfan,

If it is not in your startup group it is probably in your registry under:

HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/run

you can the the string from there and put the tag at the end.

Hope this helps
