I certainly thought when I joined this team that someone would make it difficult to take ground. It's not as though I'm generating a lot of points with two machines (separate names) and one of those machines with two processors.
I'm already at # 109. Any of you inactive folders going to start up again and show me a little challenge?

Well I guess I could stop crunching until you draw close. Just kidding of course. Maybe a few former crunchers will decide to take you up on the challenge though.
Also, thanks for your folding monitor.

Heh heh heh, you have not passed me yet.
I'm at 85% on a 19 pointer. Unfortunately, it takes me more than a week to complete one of those, so I show a zero rate the last day or three before it dumps.
Looks like you will get past, I'll jump ahead just after, then you will get past for good.

It just makes me sad to see it so easy for me to start with another team and work my way up so quickly. I shouldn't be able to do this. I don't expect to get very far into the top 50, but who knows.
When I counted my points on that other team from 9 Jan. 2003 to 2 Apr. 2003, I had just shy of 1000 points for two machines. There were several of those 73 and 50 pointers in there, but still, that's a lot of points.
I wrote the progress monitor to promote folding. I do my best to educate about folding wherever I can. I just wish more people felt the need or were competetive enough to push Mac teams further.
This team could close the gap on a few of those non-Mac teams. I'm sure there are enough people here who have machines as good or better than mine. Where are you?

Working on other folding project where I am sure that you would have a hard time catching up.
I still waiting for you to catch up with me at d-fold, shaktai.
Only have three processors working part time so I should be easy to for you to catch with all that power that you have running. Raven went by so fast that it took me a week to get all that dust out of my eyes.

Not enough power for two projects. Sticking on Folding@home for now. Cobramac seems determined to knock me down another notch.
UPDATE: Okay jbcool. Since I broke 15,000 on FAH, I am going to give it till tomorrow evening just to see what I can do on the current dfold protein. Only so that I can see how I might "match up", then back to FAH.

Team MacNN fields quite a few teams so I think that's one of the reasons why there are so many inactives. People here can try a variety of things before settling or moving on or outright quiting. I've done all three myself. I wish there was a way to get the inactives involved again in FAH. Even a small percentage coming back would make a big difference in our production. Maybe when the gromacs cores get released for the OS X client there will be more interest. It can be kind of frustrating doing FAH for the Mac. One of the 1Ghz processors on the dualie picked up a 59.9 pointer. It will finish it in 9 days. My PC can produce that many points in less than a day. I know I could move the G4 to a project more suited for it like RC5 but that project doesn't hold any interest for me.

I know that story.
Someone was telling me that his Duron 800 MHz was folding a 73 pointer in 5 days. It took my G4 800 almost 14 days. That is particularly sad. I know that the Duron is a slightly crippled Athlon but still, that makes the G4, well, I'm not going to say it.
If this wasn't a dual processor machine, I wouldn't have much luck.
The RC5 project is AltiVec-enhanced but I could care less about breaking security. It may help someeone, but this definitely has more potential to help.

You will find that you will do well against what I am running now.
I think I just picked up two more machines that I gave away in the past to help me increase my production.
It took me about six months to catch up with enola after that race where we got blown away.
I agree with you enola the folding projects to me have more promise of helping others than some of the other project and that is why I am always hanging out in one of them. That and I like to challenge Shaktai on a regular basis.

Hiya jb! Yup, I definitely noticed when you passed me on dfold. When everyone passed me for that matter. I'm limping along on one computer there at the moment. I'm just hoping to not drop out of the top 10. Might transfer a cpu or two over there once I'm satisfied with my efforts on FAH.

Your doing just fine for having that limp.
I can still remember when you sat down and the table and beat us all hands down. Glad to have you still helping push the rest of us on.
I only have half the force that I had during the race. Gave most of them away since then. Moved away from home again and don't like to have a bunch of machines to drag back home when the job is finally over.

I'm glad to see that there are people who care. It looks as though there's a long way to go to overtake the next team.
I thought about talking to the department heads at school to see if they would mind using the machines for folding, but they shut the machines down at night, so some of the machines might not finish a WU before the deadline.

Come on!
My 4 year old PM G3/400 is about to break into the top 100 and my dual 800 is already at # 83.
Fold as if your honour depended on it.
We've already slipped two spots this week. You inactive folders, wake up, please.

Remember, the PC teams alread have gromacs. I'm expecting at least a 2x increase in team output when PPC Gromacs units are readily available. Vijay's linked benchmarks page is impressive for the G4.
Watch out. My G4 Supercomputer will eat your G3 in no time. Can't do much about your dual 800 though. Any chance of a prolonged power failure in FL?

I'm glad to hear it that things are so much better.
I know that the PC teams have already had the Gromacs core. Someone running on a PC gave me the log file so that I could update my progress monitor.
Well, I would hope that your G4 machine would outdo my G3, although that hasn't always seemed the case with G3 vs. G4 in folding.
Prolonged power failure? That's easy enough, especially during hurricane season. My local power company is typically extremely good at power failures. They just hate my UPS.

HEY! Who is making all the noise over here???
Some of us are trying to sleep.
Now that I am up might as well send a machine over to help the gang out over here out.
Hey Scott my box still running? Maybe I could have you set it up to crunch under my ID?

Well I don't know about lack of competition for the top 100, but it is getting scary in the top 10. Cobramac is knocking on my door, and Mikkyo and Enola are both threatening.

Hey, jbcool, nice to see you back folding even it's only a machine or two.
Gee, Shaktai, I was just hoping I'd sneak up on you. So much for my "cat like tread".

I can see the top 10 is hot and the top 20 is even busy.
I just never expected to walk into the top 100 so easily. I just don't have enough machine(s) to make a huge difference.

From what I can see, you are making a very fine and highly appreciated contribution. Those aren't bad numbers you are turning by any means. Persistence is the key. Even just one slow old computer that can meet the deadlines is appreciated. Competition is fun, but it is the science that is valuable to all humanity. The next great discovery might always be triggered by a single, slow old Mac.
There are a lot of people who join in for a short time and then leave. Those are the folks you have been passing so far. Folding@Home does require some patience and a long term commitment to make any headway. I expect it to "pick up a little" if gromacs proves as valuable to Macs as to PCs. The competition may suddenly get stiffer. (Here is to hoping!)
Who knows, it might even get tough for me to stay in the top 10.

Well I was enjoying a good cat nap myself, but this place is just too darn rowdy and woke me up.

Thanks!
Well, in maybe 15 months, the G3 has contributed around 750 points and the dual 800 has contributed nearly 1900 in about 9 months.
I could only hope that more people would be active. I've seen far too many people whine when they didn't get instant gratification. I've never seen anything truly good work that way.
<edit>
reader50:
You got you wish. The power was out for a while and my G3 apparently sat dead for quite a while.
