Hi,
ok, so the Dnet FAQ states that running RC5 won't harm your computer... ...but then they're going to say that.

So what's the real skinny on running RC5 on my 17" iMac? Am I in any way going to shorten the life of my machine? Any downsides whatsoever?

Thanks.

It doesn't tax your hard drive much, so aside from a little extra heat from the CPU being at max load, I can't see it being a big deal. I've been running one Distributed project or another on my Cube 24 hrs. a day for almost 3 years.

Even if you leave your computer off whenever you're not using it, you're going to put as much or more wear and tear on the hard drive spinning it up on restarts as leaving it on.

I doubt this pertains to your model, but running my TiBook 24/7 for the past two years now has shorted out my power cord 3 times. Other than that I havent had any problems.

RC5 will fry your machine, you should switch immediately to F@H.

See? Proof F@H is good for your iMac.
