We need more activity in here.
I need a naming scheme for my network.

So here's the deal: Come up with a naming scheme that works well, can spread out to multiple locations, and can handle quite a few computers, and that I like . The winner gets use of my xp2100 for a week.

Here's the current setup by IP:

.1 - athlon xp 2000, my primary server, does all web stuff
.2 - powermac 8500, my proxy server, has a tape drive that I might even use one day, also does some teamstats stuff
.3 - athlon xp 2100, teamstats processing machine
.5 - G4 400 desktop
.7 - Tibook 550, my laptop
.8 - G3 400, my old desktop, now print server, and one day maybe OSX server
.10 - setiQ right now, soon to be a linux desktop / dev box
.11 - work laptop
.12 - sister's imac G4 800, 15"
.13 - brother's imac G4 1gig, 17"
.250 - wireless base station. It's about to die a horrific death, but it's replacement will carry the same IP

Also needing names are
cisco 678 DSL modem
3com 16 port switch
HP Deskjet 990
HP Laserjet 1200

So, brainstorm away, let's see what you all come up with.

Suggested names for network boxes and components. They share a common theme, that can readily extend to new hardware:

stupid, dumdum, idiot, slowpoke, fossil, deadmeat, crashie, hackme, smokey

Ex's????? No freakin' way!!

I have a friend who started a salt water aquarium and wanted to name the various fish after friends but decided it would be too morbid to wake up one morning and see that "Enola" (or whoever) had died. I would have a hard time naming anything after someone I personally knew.

Mine are all slightly ironic, which makes naming them all the more fun. I have bacchant (I spilled something on him) and Luddite. My wireless network is Ludditenet.

Why not use one of the various Jedi character naming sites - the powermac 8500 would have to be Obi-wan something or other, a venerable powerhouse in it's day
