i no you will all think that i m useless scum of the earth if i carry on like this but i assure you i can do some things

ok as you may have noticed from my previous cries for help im tying to set up seti CLI

so i come to the crontab part
follow the instructions at: http://www.macaddict.com/setiex/setiathome.html

but i get this

[iMac-17:~/setiathome] joe% c
c: Command not found.
[iMac-17:~/setiathome] joe% cd
[iMac-17:~] joe% crontab -1
crontab: illegal option -- 1
crontab: usage error: unrecognized option
usage: crontab [-u user] file
crontab [-u user] { -e | -l | -r }
[iMac-17:~] joe%

yep i get all that!!! so where do i go from here i tried the crontab.txt that the site above suggested but it didnt work

also how do i check the progress of it do i need special text editors or other software?

You need Seti Dockling! Works great, less frustrating.

You typed a 1 (one) not an l (el).
You want L only lowercase.
L stands for list in this case.
crontab -l
will list your current crontab.
