I am having problems getting d fold to run are there any detailed instructions out there for running this thing?

I am trying to put it on a single 1.25g machine
running the current version of OS X

Thanks

Which version of the program are you wanting to set up?
The GUI or the CLI.

I was thinking with the GUI you just download into the directory where you want to run the client and unpack the software, started it up and answer the questions. The CLI required moving a copy of the terminal program to the directory and the starting that up and running the foldit file. Then answer the questions.

Come on guys/gals correct me.

If no one does I will get the old G4 out of the closet and install the d-fold software and document the steps to get it running this weekend.

I thought that dFold was CLI only.

Not sure, but I think you still have to chmod the file before it will run. Right now I can't even access the web site to check the directions.

In the terminal, cd to the directory you have dFold in.

Type
chmod +x dfold (or whatever you have named it if you changed the name)

then ./dfold

Somebody correct me if I got that wrong. I am going from memory.

dFold is command line only. Unpack the file that you download and then move the resulting distribfold folder to wherever you want it.

Before you run the program you will need to get your handle. Go to:
http://distributedfolding.org/login.html
and sign up. You will then be sent and 8 digit handle. If you then go back to the same place you can log in and join Team MacNN.
I would guess that right now they have no power as the site seems to be dead.

Open a terminal window and cd into that directory. If you are hazy on how to do that type cd, drag the folder to the terminal window and then hit return. Then type "./foldit". You will then be asked a bunch of questions including what your handle is. Other questions:

Use more RAM: no means that you will use about 32MBs of RAM, yes means from 60-150MBs depending on the protein.

Autoupdate: just say yes.

Quiet: Yes means that there will be no output to the terminal. You should probably say no to this until you have run it some.

Internet connection: Yes if you have an always on connection. You can answer yes even if you have a modem but it will time out for 1 or 2 minutes each time that it tries to connect when the modem is off.

There are some more questions but those are the main ones. (that I can remember) There is a readme1st.txt file in the directory that has a lot of info, or even too much.

Like I said these guys will correct me if I am wrong. I was going from memory and it has been a long time since I have set up any DC project on a mac. That and my memory is getting old.

Thanks for giving this person the answer they needed Welnic.

Thanks to you also Shaktai.

Thanks for the help ,
ya all really should consider putting this in an
appropriate format and posting it in a semi permanent manner.

At one point we had pages up like that for each of the projects we run. It appears, though, that these pages disappeared after upgrading our main website. Any idea where these are, krove?
