I am sitting here absolutely loving my new Dual G5! I just set it up and configured it for our network, this thing is the coolest looking computer (inside and out) that I have ever seen. You have never seen a computer that looks like this inside, Apple spent as much time designing the inside as the outside this time. I will be available for a while during "testing" to try a few DC Clients for benchmarking if anyone wants, should be fun. Can't wait for 10.3!!!

Sucker is LOUD though!

It is really LOUD when the fans are running. Fortunately, from since about an hour after I started it up, the fans have not run pretty much at all, except when I open the door to show off the insides. They come on then, full blast for about 20 seconds, then cycle back down.

I just started up tweo copies of dFold on it to run until it finishes the first set, hopefully by tomorrow. Once that finishes, I will try F@H next and then maybe seti. I did try to get D2OL running this afternoon, no go. It has no provisions for firewall authentication so it won't even get out to get a work unit to play with.

Folding will get work, it just won't turn it in from here. I aleady tried. Too bad, it would be awesome to run all of these new 3.06 Ghz P4 boxes on F@H for a few weeks, months, years!!!

Onemac,

I'm unclear...is it loud under 100% load?

When I left work today, it had been running two instances of dFold for about an hour. The fans had not even cut back on yet. I could not determine what was loading it enough earlier to make the fans come on, if anything besides compressing video should load it up, it should be two DC projects running at the same time!

I am anxious to see tomorrow if how far it got on those two wu's from dFold.

There are fans for all the key components, so if you aren't using graphics, CPU, and drive intensive apps, you aren't going to get major fan action.
I believe at boot they all turn on for a second to verify they work.

Well, I did not have time today to check the progress being made by the two G5 processors, but I had to take one XP3200 (overclocked to 2.43 Ghz) out of service to put the Dual G5 in service and both processors on the G5 do not crunch at the speed of the one XP3200. I am quite disappointed in that. Maybe when Panther comes out and the dFold client gets optimized for the G5 it will be up to it's potential. I have been unable to get any of the other DC clients to work behind our firewall at work so far, too bad.
